About Amy
Amy (Moran) Gurney has been working and training in this industry
for over 30 years. Her maiden name is Amy Fresina. She attended
Norfolk County Agricultural High School achieving indictment into
the National Honor Society and receiving a Proficiency Award in
Horse Management. In these early years she helped work a 12 horse
riding stable. The practical hands on everyday experience gave her
invaluable lessons and an insight into the hard work required of
this business which she loved.
Her formal riding education didn't start until she attended Wilson
College. Here she got to work with Karen Glassman and the great
Colonel Kitts on the art of Classical Dressage. The next few
chapters in her life led her to working, managing and learning
alongside some prominent professional horse people in our area:
Cynthia Green, Dr. Burnell, Fred Hunt and Holly Brewster (Charisma
Farm), Carl Catani and Kathy Fletcher (Riverwind Farm). It was in
this stage of her life that she became aware that she was developing
an educated and gifted eye.
Amy entered her first Hunter/Jumper Horse Show in her early 20's
on a green horse she was training and totally fell in love with the
sport! From then on she managed to get a constant string of horses
to train and compete on as generous people recognized her
dedication, hard work and innate ability to bring out the best in
the horses she worked with. She had the opportunity to gain
experience showing in Hunters, Jumpers and Equitation.
Her professional career started when she became employed by
Fieldstone Farm (Scott and Linda Clawson). She worked alongside
Kathy Fletcher for the first 3 years building up her own client base
which she continued on with for another 5 years. She realized that
she enjoyed teaching and coaching her students more than riding
herself! Her students became very successful in the show ring
including winning State and Regional Equitation Finals and 3rd place
Overall Finish at the National Pony Finals! Some of the Horses and
Ponies she found and trained while at Fieldstone Farm include:
Victoria's Secret, Escapade, Pixie Dust, Sam I Am, Dark No Sugar,
Just My Size, Count Me In, Victory, Georgian Bay, Fire on Ice, Joy
Ride, Game Boy.
In 2000 she started her own business which she named Four Star Show
Stable which later became Four Star Equestrian as it is today. Her
student’s consistent achievements are testimony to her success.
Black Ty Optional, Damaris, I Love Lucy, Moonlit Night, The
Guardian, Major Party, and Imagine That are some of the Horses and
Ponies she enjoyed making into Champions including two Equitation
Final winners. Her love, talent and dedication to the sport
consistently enrich the students she works with as they too can
experience the magic!
Amy lives in Hanson with her husband, two step children, two dogs
and a parrot. She enjoys gardening and spoiling her dogs in her
spare time.
